This is 40

Well, it's official. I am no longer 30-something. As of today, October 5, 2016, I am 40. And you know what? I'm OK with it.

In the weeks leading up to my birthday, it seemed as though people were waiting for me to have a meltdown. Like I was going to suddenly collapse in a puddle of tears, convinced the best years of my life are over. On the contrary! I am not one of those people who would do anything to go back in time to their younger days. I don't regret the road I've travelled -- not a single step --- but I also wouldn't go back. I love where I am right now.

One of my favourite sayings goes like this: "If you want to feel rich, count up the things you have that money cannot buy." On this milestone birthday, I'd like to do just that. There are so many things about right now for which I am grateful.

I am the proud mama of our miracle baby, a 9-year-old girl who is the spunkiest, kindest, craziest, smartest and most loving person I know.

I have been married for 14 years to a man I would marry again and again. He is loyal, he is smart, he is handsome, his love is unwavering, and he makes me laugh every day. Marry your best friend, folks!

I have a job I love. Aside from blogging (which I also love, btw) I am a freelance writer and editor. I've always loved words, and to be able to make my living using my love of language and my creativity (not to mention being able to do it in my pjs) is pretty great.

I have an amazing family. I am an only child, but my parents both have a gaggle of siblings (7 and 8, to be exact) and that means I also have a huge extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. I wouldn't trade any of them for anything.

I have amazing friends. I have never been a person who makes friends easily, but I am fortunate to have friends in my life I have known for more than 30 years, others whom I've known for nearly 20, and others I've known for less time but who I consider to be some of my best friends. I am a firm believer in there being no difference between true friends and family, and I am a very lucky girl indeed to be able to count these people among my family.

So, you can see, I have a lot to be grateful for. Yes, there are a few more wrinkles around my eyes that I may have had on my last milestone birthday, and gravity has not been my friend, but those are just details. When it comes down to the things that really matter, I am very lucky indeed.

And now for a little snapshot into 40-year-old me:

Watching: Loving lots of new fall shows! Designated Survivor, Speechless, The Good Place....and old faves like Grey's Anatomy, The Big Bang Theory, and The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Loving Harry Connick Jr.'s new talk show, too.

Eating: As with every year at this time, I'm all about the pumpkin spice! Had my first -- and second -- #PSL this weekend.

Wearing: I'm still all about comfort. Loving my plaid flannels this time of year.

Reading: "Most Wanted" by Lisa Scottoline. Just finished "The Couple Next Door"

Listening to: Not much music these days. Love falling asleep to relaxation videos, though, after I've read for a bit.

Feeling: Anxious. Need to start packing to leave for vacation soon. Always an overwhelming thing for me!

Celebrating: 40 years of me! :)

Needing: Absolutely nothing. I have all I could want.
