Top ways to enjoy granola, all day


Granola is just for breakfast and hiking, right? WRONG! There are almost countless ways to use granola any time of day.


Breakfast

This is typically when most people think of granola, then think breakfast. And with good reason! Granola makes a delicious, quick, and portable meal for busy morning and morning on the go. But you don't just have to eat it straight up (although it is delicious that way). Here are a few more ideas:

Pour milk over your granola and microwave it for a couple of minutes for a delicious, warm, breakfast!

Use it to top your morning yogurt for a more filling meal. Layer things up with fresh berries for a breakfast parfait!

If you can't (or choose not to) eat dairy, mix your granola into some peanut butter. You can either eat this mixture by the spoonful or roll it into balls and chill for delicious, poppable treats whenever you need one!

Snack Smart

Thinly slice an apple and spread each slice with peanut butter. Top half of the slices with granola and top with the rest of the apple slices to make "sandwiches."

Homemade granola bars are a delicious way to enjoy your favourite granola on the go. The recipe can be as simple or as complex as you like! Start with honey, sugar and butter, melted together on the stove. Add in your granola, spread into a greased pan and bake for about 25 minutes. Cut into desired size. You can also add in things like nuts, seeds, chocolate chips, dried fruits, coconut, etc. as your tastes dictate.

Granola also makes a great "breading" for fruits. For example, cut an apple into wedges or a banana into chunks. Roll the fruit in honey and then n granola for a delicious treat. (Kids love these, but don't feed honey to kids less than a year old).

Dessert

Granola also makes a delicious topping for muffins, coffee cake, or apple pie, or even tossed over plain ol' vanilla ice cream for a quick weeknight dessert. Or use it as the basis for a delicious pie crust!

Note: Granola can be very good for you, but it can also be very calorie- and fat-laden. If you aren't going to make your own, be sure you read the labels before you buy. Also, it's a good idea to pre-portion your granola into Ziploc bags that you can grab and go when you need them so you always know you are having a sensible portion.
