The sweetest subscription box for book lovers

I am always looking for more ways to indulge in me time, ways to relax, unwind, and reset. And if that can come in the form of a box that comes right to my door, what could be better than that?

Recently, the lovely people over at Sweet Reads Box offered to send me a box to review, and boy am I glad they did! I completely book-nerded out when I received the box, but I held off on opening it until conditions were optimal. My work was done for the day, no one was around to interrupt me or need me for anything, I had a fresh cup of coffee in my hand, and I could put up my feet and truly enjoy the unboxing.

The very first thing I noticed about the box was the way it was wrapped. The contents of the box came wrapped in the most beautiful navy tissue paper, topped with a Sweet Reads Box sticker. I gingerly removed the sticker, so as to not tear it or the paper (yes, I am the type of person who hates to tear pretty paper!).

Here's what was inside:

Each box is centered around each month's book selection, with the additional items either being related to the book or aimed at enhancing the book-reading experience, or both. In addition to the book, every box contains:

  • an item that relates to the theme, setting, or story of the novel

  • A drink designed to sip while you read the book

  • A sweet treat to snack on while reading

  • A card explaining why they chose the novel and how each of the items connect to it.

The October selection was Faithful, by Alice Hoffman. It's the story of Shelby Richmond, a young girl whose live is completely changed when her best friend is in an accident and Shelby is left to deal with the guilt. It is the story of a young girl trying to make her way in the crazy world that is New York City as she struggles with her own demons.

The box also contained:

Templeman's Toffees Cashew Crunch with Milk Chocolate (What?? How can THAT be anything but awesome?): The main character in the book is fond of Chinese food, in which cashews feature quite often, making this a perfect (Canadian-made!) sweet treat to enjoy while reading this book.

A bag of Kyoto Coffee, produced locally in Canada: The novel takes place in NYC, and since Americans love their coffee, this was a fitting beverage to include!

Little Blue House by Hatley "Tiny Blue Labs" Crew Socks and "Things to Fetch" magnetic notepad: Shelby's love of animals features heavily in the story, and these items are fun and useful ways to show your own love of animals!

New York Magnetic Map: The story takes place in NYC, and now you can follow along on Shelby's journey with these magnets.

Fred "Mark My Words" Bookmarks: If you're a reader, you probably always need more bookmarks. These fun, comic book-inspired options are a wonderful addition to any collection.

I absolutely LOVE Sweet Reads Box. The novel is outside of the box for my usual taste, but I love that about this subscription box. It allows you to discover a new book every month, along with some fun surprises that beautifully complement the reading experience. From the beautiful way everything was packaged to the thought and care that goes into the curation of this box, every detail is perfection.

This would make an awesome holiday gift for the book lover in your life. What could be better than an ongoing gift that allows you to remind that special bibliophile that you are thinking about them, whether you live in the same house or miles apart? It would be a perfect gift for a long-distance best friend, for an adult child living away from home for the first time, for your spouse, or even for yourself! After all, you deserve a box full of me time, too, right? This holiday season, give someone you love the gift of some high-quality me time!

  • The box always contains goods well above the subscription price (this box had a retail value of over $60). Subscriptions range from $49.99 + shipping for month-to-month subscriptions to $263.94 prepaid for six months (which works out to be $43.99 per month).

  • If you sign up for the Sweet Reads Box newsletter, you'll earn a 10% discount code for 3- and 6-month subscriptions

  • Boxes ship out on the 15th every month

  • Wherever possible, the items included in the box come from Canadian companies
