Way beyond hummus!

I have a confession: I love chickpeas. I love them on salads, in the form of hummus, and rolled into that street-food favourite, falafel. Now, I know that chickpeas are admittedly not something that a lot of people really get excited about as I do, but a new cookbook by Heather Lawless and Jen Mulqueen aims to change that by providing a host of recipes for celebrating the often-maligned chickpea.

Chickpea Revolution

The Chickpea Revolution Cookbook features 85 entirely plant-based recipes where chickpeas are the star. From breakfast to dinner to snack time and every time in between, there is something here for everyone.

This book goes far beyond hummus, using chickpeas in ways I would never have imagined before reading this book. Examples include:

Breakfast options, such as:

- Chickpea Breakfast Sausages

- Breakfast Burritos

- Banana Chocolate Chip Oatmeal (yes, you read that right!)

Chickpea-centered riffs on food truck favourites, like:

- Triple Threat Chickpea Poutine

- Falafel Dog with Crispy Cabbage and Tahini Drizzle

- You'll-Never-Eat-Another-Burger Burger

Family-friendly dishes like:

- Garbanzo Joes (vegan sloppy joes)

- Chick Nuggets

And desserts such as cupcakes, brownies, pavlova, and more -- and even some beverages - all featuring chickpeas in various forms. Oh, and a killer hummus recipe, too, of course.

There are recipes here in which chickpeas take centre stage, unapologetically taking the starring role, and those in which the chickpeas are a little more subtlly in the background (perfect for those who would like to hide such things from their children, for example, although I can't say I'm a fan of that tack. Read more on that here).

This book will make you look at chickpeas in a different light. Whether you're already a fan or whether you have been hesitant to try them, The Chickpea Revolution offers a vast collection of recipes for expand your repertoire and to incorporate these nutritious nuggets into your diet in creative, interesting, healthy and, above all, delicious ways.
